    Fri 22 May 2020 KB

Wow! Another incredible week of work, ingenuity, creativity, resilience and general amazing-ness from from our Clare Mount community has come to an end!

Following our art 'theme' last week, this week we have been celebrating our well-being with 'Live Well Week!'

Mrs Badzire and the PE Department have been sharing ideas for staying active and eating healthily; with lots of fun activities; baking, treasure hunts, quizzes and physical challenges; and once again, you lot have been brilliant! Keep sending your pics in to your form tutor and we'll display them either here or on our social media feeds!

Have a wonderful half term break everyone!

  • Messages of Support from our Head Girl and Boy

    Fri 22 May 2020 KB

Abigail and Reeve, our Head Girl and Boy have special messages for all our students as we approach half term:

    "Hi everyone,

How are you all doing in the lock-down? I want to encourage all of you to keep strong, healthy and fit and happy. I really recommend you all do the Joe Wickes fitness class every day.

I know this is a hard time but stay positive, stay safe, stay home and save lives. Go out for a walk every day. Keep active. Still keep in contact with friends and family, go out for a picnic or go for a walk with your family.

Remember I miss you all but I am really proud of you all so keep going!

From your Head Girl – Abigail."

"Hi everyone, its Reeve here, hope I find everyone well and safe. Just another little update as I want each and everyone of you to know that you’re doing exceptional at this strange time.

If you are struggling that is fine as lots of other people our age are in this time too. If you are feeling like this the best thing to do is talk to someone. Things will get better! I have seen all your hard work that has been put on the school website and social media. I love to look through it to see what you have all been up to and that in itself helps all of us to be strong as we are all in this together.

I hope you all continue with your hard work.

    Reeve."

  • Photo Review of Week-Ending 15th May

    Fri 15 May 2020 KB

Well. it's been another remarkable week for our community! Following an incredible run-up to VE Day last Friday, this week we have been focusing on all things art! Mr. Johnson has kept us all on our toes with daily activities and a couple of brilliant competitions, with the chance to become a part of the Clare Mount lock-down gallery; a kind of time capsule that'll help us all reflect in future on what an unusual time this is!

In these photos you'll see science experiments, cooking, baking, house-work, exercise, all manner of creativity and most importantly bags of learning in the place that's safest for us all at the moment; home!

You'll also see some of our families receiving vital sensory equipment thanks to money donated by The Johnson Foundation. Well done Clare Mount; keep it going and we will see you all very soon!

  • Double Boost For Clare Mount Families Thanks to Generosity and Ingenuity!

    Wed 13 May 2020 KB

Over the course of the last week, families of students from Clare Mount Specialist Sports College have received a welcome boost, in a period of uncertainty, thanks to the innovation, compassion and generosity of the school staff and some amazing partner organisations.

Thanks to a funding bid, written by Mr. White, the Morgan Foundation awarded the school over £1800 to purchase sensory activity equipment to be used at home. Many of our students take part in sensory circuits when in school. These activities help to set children up for a school day and reach the level of alertness and/or calmness needed to concentrate. It is hoped that by providing some of this equipment to our students it will help with their home learning while the 'lock-down' continues.

Mr. Vasey and Mr. Atkins delivered the first consignment of equipment to our families on Wednesday 13th May.

Meanwhile, since late March a number of our families have been receiving food support thanks to Mr. Scott and his association with The Heswall Round Table charitable organisation. Over the course of the last fortnight, Clare Mount staff,, via a Just-Giving page set up by Mrs Badzire, have raised over £900 in order to extend this support to more than 40 of our families; and we are hoping that this number will increase over the next fortnight.

This has been a fantastic effort by a remarkable team of people. Thank you, on behalf of our entire community, to everyone who has contributed.

  • A message to parents / carers from Mrs. Webster

    Tue 12 May 2020 KB

    Dear parents/carers,

Re: possible reopening of school to more pupils in June

You may have seen in the news that schools could reopen on 1st June to some primary-aged pupils if the government thinks it’s safe then. At Sunday’s announcement there was no specific mention of Secondary or Special schools like ours.

At Clare Mount Specialist Sports College, we’re waiting for further guidance and clarification from the government and will be working with the Local Authority to ensure it is safe before we start reopening for more of our students in the future.

It’s a very unsettling time for us all, but rest assured that we’re going to be doing everything we can to make sure we’re ready to receive more pupils when it’s safe for our school to do so.

There will be a carefully planned reintegration strategy to support students through this transition.

In the meantime, the school is still open only for vulnerable pupils where the safest place to spend the day is in school and for the children of critical workers. The safest place for the majority of our students (your child) at present is still at home with you. We know some employers will be encouraging you to return to work, but we’re not in a position right now to extend places to other children until we receive further government guidance.

We’d like to thank you for your continued support in helping your child learn and develop new skills from home.  There are some fantastic examples of this on our website. We’ll need to keep going with this for a while yet, so please do continue to do what you can and stay in touch with us about how your child is doing.

If you have any questions, please continue to contact your child’s form tutor.

    Take care and stay safe.

  • This week is art week!

    Mon 11 May 2020 KB

Hi Everyone, it's Mr. Johnson here!

    It’s Art Week!

There are four different things going on through this week and beyond you may want to try.

Firstly today (Monday) is the SuperLambanana Art Competition.

This competition has exciting 1st, 2nd and 3rd winning prizes. All winners get certificates and art materials and for the 1st prize winner, their winning design has the special honour of being featured on the SuperLambanana in the main entrance of the school for all to see. See attachments for more information.

Secondly is the “Lockdown” Gallery Launch. During this extra time at home, it is time to get creative juices flowing and get painting!!  Any artwork created during this time that students want to contribute will be displayed on our virtual gallery soon to be seen on the art website.  Each day I will give some ideas.

    Monday’s Lockdown ideas:

    a) Create a Lowry style street or your street with people keeping social distancing and masked.

    OR

    b) Draw/paint what makes you smile on lockdown.  Some people choose pets/people, a special place e.g. somewhere in the garden or a view out of the window

Thirdly there is a wealth of activity offered each day all art-based of differing varieties.  These are activities to be created at home with suggestions, pointers, ideas and website visuals/tutorials to feed the imagination.

Today the attachment is by ATLAS Arts on the Isle of Skye that have made Frances Priest’s limited-edition colouring book based on seven plant habitats on the Isle of Raasay available as a free download.

Also last but not least is the Getty Art Museum Challenge kindly organised By Mrs Boyle.  This is a fantastic opportunity to get the whole family involved.  The challenge is to re-create a picture of a famous painting.  This can be serious or humorous. The photos you can see at the bottom of this article are examples of Getty Museum Challenges! (You may be able to spot a familiar face!) If you want to see more examples you can simply Google 'The Getty Art Challenge.' This is a good article too: https://teachingkidsnews.com/2020/04/20/one-good-thing-the-getty-museum-challenge/

You can find all the instructions and resources you need for this week's art challenges over at our dedicated page here: https://www.claremountssc.co.uk/covid-19-information/

I look forward to seeing all artwork as the week progresses and beyond.

  • VE Day 2020

    Sun 10 May 2020 KB

Friday 8th May was a national bank holiday to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Although we couldn't be together in school we were determined to celebrate together in spirit. In the week leading up to the event the school staff created a montage video, that can be viewed here: https://www.claremountssc.co.uk/covid-19-information/

The whole community were challenged by the Humanities Dept to design tea-cups, bake cakes and create bunting; all building up to taking part in the VE Day celebrations with a tea party at home!

Take a look through our photo gallery for yet another example of an amazing school community coming together in the face of adversity!
