  • A Message from Mrs Webster to start the Summer Term

Sun 19 Apr 2020 Kevin Byrne

    Dear parents / carers,

I hope you all had a restful Easter break and welcome to our very first remote summer term!

We’ve all had to adapt to new ways of working, so I wanted to take the chance to say what an amazing job you’re doing supporting your child’s well-being and learning during this time.

It’s definitely been a strange and challenging time, so it’s understandable if you and your child feel anxious and frustrated at the moment. We’re here for you every step of the way as
we figure this all out together.

Remember, if you have any concerns about helping your child learn or you need any other support from the school, please let us know by either calling the school during normal school
opening hours (although limited staff are in the office to answer your call) or by email to schooloffice@claremount.wirral.sch.uk

Form tutors will be continuing to support you and will try and make daily contact with you again from Monday 20th April 2020, via phone or e-mail. We hope that this is helping you as a family in a number of ways.

We miss having the pupils in school, but we must continue to follow the government’s guidance to keep everyone in our community safe. So, we’re carrying on with our 'remote
learning' while providing education on-site for a few children of key-workers in the fight against COVID-19.

Our teachers will be setting plenty of tasks for pupils to get stuck into over the summer term. Please do not feel they have to complete all tasks as we know some students work much
better in school with support and their well-being is far more important to us and to you. These tasks can be found on our website on the dedicated pages for each of the subjects
the students learn. Do remind your child to take breaks away from screens as well, and also make time for having fun, exercising and chatting with friends and family. The PE
department have been sharing ideas daily via Twitter for how to stay active and there are plenty of additional ideas on our website on our dedicated COVID-19 page: https://www.claremountssc.co.uk/covid-19-information/

While we can’t say yet when we’ll be able to open the school fully, rest assured that we’ll continue doing our utmost to keep pupils upbeat and learning.

    A couple of specific requests:

    • During the Easter break, our staff have put together a lovely, fun 'message' for the students that I'm sure they'll enjoy!! To ensure you don't miss this (and other updates we have planned over the coming weeks!), make sure you are following one or both of our social media accounts: Twitter: @ClareMountSSC or Instagram: @ClareMountSSC
    • We would like to decorate our school gates with rainbow messages for the NHS. If you're able to 'get creative' please send your posters / images to schooloffice@claremount.wirral.sch.uk and we'll make sure they are displayed outside the school

    Warm regards,

    Mrs Webster

  • The BBC begin 'Bite-size' TV programmes from Monday 20th April to assist with home learning!

Sat 18 Apr 2020 Kevin Byrne

As you know, we are providing as much learning material as possible via this website; just visit our individual subject pages for ideas and resources.

Our Twitter and Instagram feeds contain daily guidance for keeping active and looking after your family's well-being and don't forget our dedicated COVID-19 Resource page, which can be found here: https://www.claremountssc.co.uk/covid-19-information/

We are delighted to share that from Monday 20th April; the start of the summer term, the BBC will begin broadcasting lessons in various subjects. How to access these lessons is explained here:

It's a strange time to be a school pupil right now but wherever you're doing your lessons, BBC Bitesize is here for you - more than ever.

From 20 April, you’ll be able to access regular daily lessons in English and Maths, as well as other core subjects, in an expanded version of the BBC website and also on special programmes broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC Red Button.

The Bitesize website you use now will expand to offer additional help for students and parents. New Maths and English lessons will be available every day for all ages. These will be created with resources from Bitesize, other parts of the BBC and other education providers. The content of these lessons will be backed up by new videos, practice tests, educational games and articles. Regular lessons on other core subjects, including science, will also be available. Mums and dads can get advice on how to teach anyone who is home-schooling and the Bitesize website will also have guides for pupils with SEN (special educational needs).

    Lessons on screen

BBC iPlayer and the Red Button service will host Bitesize Daily. These are six different 20 minute shows, each designed to target a specific age group, from ages five to 14, and for pupils throughout the UK. Experts and teachers will be involved, covering what should be learned that day for the different year groups and key stages. Maths, Science and English will be covered in dedicated programmes, and other subjects such as History, Geography, Music and Art will also be covered.

For older students, BBC Four is also joining forces with Red Button for evening programmes to support the GCSE and A Level curriculum.

    Listen and learn

In addition, BBC Sounds is also launching separate podcasts, aimed at either primary or secondary pupils, to support everyone learning at home. The daily shows, each around 10 minutes long, will link with content on Bitesize which supports education and also your other needs, in what is likely to be a confusing and worrying time for many young people as we continue to live in lockdown.

Bitesize also has an app. This will be providing daily lessons for 14 and 15 year olds. Find out more about the app here.

Bitesize Daily will broadcast on BBC iPlayer and Red Button with content for all age groups - backed up by the Bitesize website

    The social side of learning

Bitesize’s social media will also look a little different for a while. Its Facebook and Twitter accounts will now focus on parents, where information including study schedules will be shared. Teenage students can still enjoy our Instagram platform, where flashcards, subject guides, memes and some lighter relief in the form of advice and encouragement from well-known faces will be readily available.

In the meantime, Bitesize is here as usual, and will continue to be so when life returns to normal.
