  • Rain Scuppers County Cricket Final

Fri 15 Jul 2016 Paul Kearney

A much changed group of cricketers made their way off to Warrington Cricket Club in search of the County title on the 15th July. We welcomed Caleb and Bryn to the group and also our new coach and umpire, Mason. Our first game was played under overcast skies and we put in a spirited performance against a strong Greenbank side, ultimately coming up short in a tight contest. It was wonderful to see the happiness of the new players as they scored their first runs for the school and they enjoyed themselves.

Our second game was against Samuel Laycock school and, following an excellent batting performance from Clare Mount, the rain began to fall heavily just one over into the reply from the opposition.

Lunch was taken early but sadly it was to be the end of the proceedings and we left the abandoned tournament having lunched well watching how the professionals play on the big screen, with the boys keen to learn from England and Pakistan.

Thanks to Mrs Stephenson for driving us again and also to Cheshire Cricket Board and Warrington Sports Club for their hospitality. Finally, thank you to the players and my assistant Mason. I am immensely proud of all the representatives of our school in cricket this season and can't wait to start the indoor season with in September.

Congratulations to Reeve in Year 8 who was awarded a medal engraved with the signature of Jessica Ennis-Hill for his resilience in taking part in sport this year. Reeve was 1 of only 18 pupils across the country, out of thousands who take part in Sky Living for Sport, shortlisted for a medal. We are extremely proud of him. Well done Reeve. The pictures include Reeve with World Inline Skating Champion Jenna Downing presenting him with his medal, and Reeve representing the school tag rugby team at the recent North West Competition in Blackburn RFC.

  • Pupils enjoy successful trip to Wimbledon

    Wed 06 Jul 2016 D. Keefe
Thanks to a kind donation of tickets from The Tennis Foundation, as part of the Beyond the Baseline programme, 8 pupils from Clare Mount enjoyed a day at Wimbledon. The pupils got to watch some senior 'legends' of tennis on Court 2 such as Patrick McEnroe, Jeremy Bates and Monsour Behrami in a highly entertaining game, before seeing former Wimbledon winners Richard Krajicek and Goran Ivanisevic. The pupils then enjoyed some time in the tennis zone and having strawberries and cream by Henman Hill before watching a men's doubles game involving the 2014 Wimbledon Champions Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil. The pupils 'loved' it!
