Summer School 2021 Off to an Amazing Start!

This year's 'HAF' (Holiday Activities with Food) Summer School got underway this week and, judging by the smiles, laughter and curiosity on display throughout the week; it's been a roaring success so far!

A total of 41 youngsters aged between 10 and 15 have participated in our first 3 days of activities; with more scheduled to join us next week.

There are many aims for summer school but arguably the most important is to help our new year 7s make a happy, successful transition to secondary school. We are able to achieve this because, every year, a collection of amazing staff and volunteers give their time and expertise to make the young people feel safe and welcome.

Activities so far have included; cookery, fencing, social games, inclusive games, rugby, football, orienteering, dance, gymnastics and forest-schools activities including den-building and fire-starting. The students have had instruction in healthy eating and food preparation alongside delicious, healthy lunch provided each day by Edsential UK.

In addition to our own teachers and teaching assistants, this year we have been joined by volunteers from further and higher education, a former and current student and coaches from fantastic partner organisations (Full of Beans Fitness, Sale Sharks in the Community, Little Musketeers Fencing and Edsential UK)

The Summer School continues next week and we are delighted to be able to provide activities for our own students right throughout August this year; provided by MW Sports and The Utopia Project.
