Role Models and Catalysts for Change

Students end lockdown with a Forest School Fiesta!

Today was (hopefully) the last day of lockdown and, before we welcome our students back in full on Monday, Mr Jones, Mrs Badzire, Miss Willis and Mr Holsgrove laid on a brilliant day for our Year 8 students as they learnt how to start fires using flint and steel and toasted their own marshmallows.

Working in the outdoors has so many benefits: Here are just a couple:

  • Confidence: children have the freedom, time and space to learn and demonstrate independence.
  • Social skills: children gain increased awareness of the consequences of their actions on peers through team activities such as sharing tools and participating in play.

Mr Jones, Mr Rain and Mrs Glover have been working hard behind the scenes preparing our school site for more Forest School fun in the future; we hope to have these activities embedded in our curriculum come September 2021.

Year 8 definitely gave the thumbs-up today!
