Role Models and Catalysts for Change

A special night for our rugby fans - young and not so young!

On Friday 27th January a squad of Clare Mount's rugby fanatics - students and staff - set sail (pun intended) to watch some Gallagher Premiership Rugby Union at Sale Sharks. The home side were entertaining Bath in front of a crowd of 10,000!

Our intrepid squad arrived in the early evening to be met by members of the Sale Sharks Foundation coaching team and after a trip to the food vans and the club shop we were treated to a coaching clinic before entering the stadium to watch the game.

The privileges didn't stop there, though. Our students formed a guard of honour for the teams prior to kick off and two of the squad - Lewis and Skye - were selected to run out with the Sale team - an unforgettable experience!

At half time, we left our seats once again - this time to play touch rugby on the pitch in front of the massive crowd.

As if that wasn't enough excitement, Bath then treated us all to a heroic comeback (training 22-3 at half time) and, leading as the game went into overtime, they were denied an unlikely victory by a heroic try, which vindicated Mr Keefe's tricky decision to stay until the end rather than beat the traffic!!!

A truly memorable night was summed up by Aaron on the way home: "I want to be a professional rugby player when I'm older"
