Role Models and Catalysts for Change

A letter from Mrs Webster: The Reopening of School from 5th January 2021

Dear parent/carer,

(A copy of the letter below has been sent to your primary email address)

On Wednesday 30th December, The Secretary of State for Education announced plans to “protect education and fight the virus.”

With cases rising across the country the government have pushed back staggered return for secondary schools. This is to give more time for rollout of testing. This will help to find asymptomatic cases and break chains of transmission making it as safe as possible to return to ‘face to face’ education.

Special schools are being offered greater flexibility on face to face attendance of pupils in the first week of term. This will assist the planning and delivery of a mass testing programme.

Clare Mount Specialist Sports College will be open to all students who are ‘vulnerable’ and to those whose parents/carers are ‘key workers’ from Tuesday 5th January 2021.

I have been informed that all schools will receive an initial delivery of lateral flow device test kits to support asymptomatic testing from the start of the spring term. However, I would ask, where possible, for you to take your child to one of our local testing stations over the weekend as testing will not start in school until staff have been appropriately trained and having your child tested will reduce the risk to others. Please do not worry if you are unable to get to a test station as we understand this will not be easy for everyone. If you do manage to go, please send the result through to school office.

The safety of our pupils, staff and the wider Clare Mount community is our priority and as such we are increasing our safety protocols to ensure we can follow the guidelines.

If you are at home and able to supervise your child, work will be set to support their learning. Please be aware that if your child does attend school between 5th – 8th January, we will not be offering the normal school timetable. Pupils will follow a year specific timetable to reduce movement around school and further minimise contact with others. The 2m distancing, one-way system and more frequent handwashing and cleaning expectations will need to be rigidly adhered to. This will be reviewed for Monday 11th January.

Your child’s form tutor will call you on Monday 4th January 2021 to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Please email school office with the following information

1. Name of Child

2. I have had my child tested at a walk-in centre and the test came back as Negative / Positive

OR

3. I have been unable to get my child tested

4. I will not be sending my child back to school for the week commencing Tuesday 5th January 2021 but will supervise them working from home.

OR

5. I will be sending my child back to school week commencing 5th January 2021

Thank you for your continued support

Yours sincerely,

K Webster
