  • Clare Mount so close in the North West cricket Tournament

Thu 30 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

The group came so close to a double when they lost the final game of the North West Dynamos Cricket Tournament by just ONE RUN at Warrington CC. Thanks to our hosts for another brilliant tournament and thanks to Mr Ritchie and Mr Holsgrove for stepping up and marshalling the squad brilliantly in my absence. We hope to have one more game before the end of term, opposition tbc. Well done everyone!!

  • Clare Mount School Games / Commonwealth Day a Massive Success

    Tue 28 Jun 2022 KB

On Thursday 28th June, all year 7 and 8 students and an amazing selection of our Healthy Lifestyle Champions and Sports Leaders brought The Commonwealth games 2022 to life with a School Games Festival coordinated by Mrs Corcoran.

The students, representing 5 Commonwealth countries took part in:

    • Taekwondo, under the guidance of Tina from Inclusively Taekwondo
    • Team Building, led by our Youth Sport Trust Athlete Mentor and World Champion Inline-Skater Jenna Downing
    • Tag Rugby, led by our own Mr. Ritchie and Mr Basey
    • Commonwealth Games activities, led by Mr. White
    • Introduction to golf, led by Mike and Will from 'GolfStarz'

It was an absolutely brilliant day full of fun, smiles, competition, determination and a fair bit of resilience! The students were magnificent all day. It isn't easy being physically active for over 4 hours but there were no complaints: Amazing work, everyone!

Huge thanks especially to our Healthy Lifestyle Champions, not just for their work today but for their work throughout the year: Acting as ambassadors and wellbeing mentors for their peers.

Tash, Kayleigh, Kai, Rhuben, James, Oliver, Carter, Scott and Lucas: Thank you all so much for your leadership skills and for being amazing role-models

  • Next week is National Cricket Week

Fri 24 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

Next week (27th June to 1st July) is National Cricket Week and we are going to try and make things cricket orientated next week

Tuesday and Thursday there will be a lunchtime club for cricket which anyone is welcome to join. We normally work together on a Monday and Thursday so it shouldn't be a massive change in routine for the students and will be a fun session

Wednesday is the day that the cricketers are playing in Warrington in the North West Schools SEN tournament, having won the Merseyside tournament 2 weeks ago. This will be our focal point and a great advertisement for the camaraderie and sense of achievement that the students who take part in cricket have felt. We are an "open age" side with players from Year 7 to Year 11 so everyone is welcome and ability is no barrier because that is our job! Just bring enjoyment and a positive attitude

Please see the attached article from last year. The children work with Chris Edwards during the year. He is the captain of England LD side and is a fantastic role model for the students, rubbing shoulders with his fellow greats of the game on a regular basis

  • SMILES All Around at Clare Mount Dance Festival: 'Back Where We Belong!'

    Thu 23 Jun 2022 KB

This week is National School Sports Week. Several months ago, it was decided that our 'main event' of National School Sports Week would be the coordination of a Wirral-wide Dance Festival, coordinated with our partners 'SHADow Dance' and Wirral School Games.

The Youth Sport Trust, pioneers and supporters of National School Sports Week describe a successful event in terms of the acronym: S.M.I.L.E.S. which describes an event which:

    Is Safe

    Features Maximum Participation

    Is Inclusive

    Is full of Learning

    Is Enjoyable

and allows all participants to Succeed

It is hard to imagine an example of an event that embodies these principles better than what was on show last night at the magnificent Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. Throughout the day over 400 children and young people performed their carefully-rehearsed and choreographed compositions in front of an audience that topped-out at 850 in the evening.

The level of dedication, expertise, determination, skill and imagination on show was simply stunning. Lucy Poynton, dance teacher at Clare Mount Specialist Sports College and founder of SHADow Dance described the event afterwards as a 'fantastic, inspiring and emotional day' and very few people, if anyone would disagree.

If you'd like to see some more footage from the event, including videos of our fab Clare Mount dancers: please visit our Physical Education Page here: https://www.claremountssc.co.uk/physical-education-physical-activity-and-sport/

  • Skye is hands on at Friday Football

Mon 20 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

Skye took the lead in the session this week and we worked on penalty taking techniques, right foot, left foot, blasting and placing the ball. It was a good choice as well as it minimised running for the students in the hot weather. Here are some images of the session

  • Footballers continue to improve at training

Tue 14 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

We did another session today with the footballers dribbling and shooting before a game based scenario which they loved. Here are some images from today

  • Cricketers are Merseyside SEN Secondary school champions

Thu 09 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

Today we went to Alder for the Merseyside schools tournament and finished up playing a 3 match "World Series" style set of matches against Alt Bridge. The team was comprised of Kai, Luke, Callum, Nick, Lewis, Jack, Lewis and Roman and they were a credit to Clare Mount. They won all 3 games and were deservedly crowned the champions of Merseyside. What was more heartening for me as the coach is that 6 out of 8 players were in years 7 and 8 whereas other teams are always older. They should be very proud (as I am)

We also saw a couple of old faces who now work on the staff at Greenbank. It was great to see Harry, James and Luke

  • 6th form rapport with 7P is a joy to behold

Wed 08 Jun 2022 Paul Kearney

The image below is of Chris M in 6th form helping out Jaydon D in 7P. Chris' work with Jaydon has helped his ICT skills and his confidence to improve. Both Chris and Max B should be very proud of this year and how they have worked and helped several pupils out. I also reckon they must be the cleanest guys in the school as they are our resident sanitisers on a Wednesday
