Character Education: My Personal Best

MY PERSONAL BEST

As part of our health and wellbeing whole-school curriculum we ensure that every week of the school year has a 'theme!' When the theme changes, all our students have an assembly explaining to them what the 'theme of the week' means and we reflect on how important these things are in our lives. Some of the themes are character attributes that we'd like all our students to understand and develop during their time at Clare Mount. These attributes come from a programme called 'My Personal Best' designed by our partners the Youth Sport Trust. As well as being vital characteristics for happiness and wellbeing in life, they are also the top-15 attributes that employers in the UK look for in potential employees. So, by making sure we focus from time to time on these attributes we are helping our students prepare for their next step after Clare Mount, whether that be 6th form, college, an apprenticeship or even straight into the world of work!

In addition to My Personal Best we have have 5 special weeks in which we focus on one of the '5 Ways to Wellbeing' (Give, Be Active, Connect, Take Notice and Keep Learning) The 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a brilliant way to remind ourselves about activities we can try and habits we should pursue that 'help us to help ourselves' to stay mentally and emotionally well! In the final week of each full term we look to reflect and celebrate with our students through assemblies and special activities. We are now also using My Personal Best to promote a positive behaviour framework across the school. We share information about My Personal Best and 5 Ways to Wellbeing through our Twitter and Instagram accounts: These accounts are both @ClareMountSSC Please follow us!
