  • Whole School Community Inspired by Health and Wellbeing Week

    Sun 11 Feb 2024 KB/DK

The students and staff at Clare Mount marked this year's Children's Mental Health Week with our very own week devoted to Health and Wellbeing

A host of activities took place throughout the week:

    • Monday: After a full-school assembly, led by Mr Byrne and Mr Keefe, over 100 of our students took part in self-esteem workshops, led by our partners at The Brook Advisory Service, throughout the day.
    • On Tuesday and Wednesday, students from years 8 and 9 worked with the Lawn Tennis Association on the production of a new video teaching resource for teachers around the country. This took place on school site and at The Bidston Sports and Activity Centre, coordinated by our inclusion lead, Mr White.
    • After school on Tuesday, staff took part in their own wellbeing sessions, led by a talented array of staff volunteers. Activities included painting for mindfulness, coffee and connect, learn to salsa and merengue, yoga, football, and design-tech team-building!
    • Also on Tuesday and Wednesday, Mr Keefe and Mr Byrne were in Loughborough - the UK home of sport education - as Clare Mount has been invited to be one of only 5 schools in the country to be a 'Beacon Well School.' Well Schools is a movement that we'll hear a lot more about in the near future as they are the pioneers in ensuring that staff and student wellbeing are at the heart of school policy and practice - to ensure a healthier and happier nation!
    • Also on Tuesday and Wednesday Susan and Jackie, two of our expert mental health supporters ran workshops for our students on the theme of wellbeing
    • On Thursday morning, trainee teacher from The University of Chester delivered a superb Olympic-themed 'Road-to-Paris festival for our year 8 students in PE, followed by a football tournament in the sports hall for years 7 and 8 - supported by Moreton Junior Football Club
    • And finally, on Friday, we had our 'Be Active' Day. Students and staff came to school in PE kit, before taking part in a Daily Mile around the school grounds. Following this, throughout the day, all year groups took part in an Olympic Rowing Challenge. The students and staff, collectively, rowing a massive 265, 215 metres (164.7 miles)
    • All of the above was complemented by our usual menu of amazing lunchtime clubs and after-school activities - led by our devoted staff.

Thank you to all the many staff members who contributed to the organisation of such a fantastic week and to our students for engaging so willingly throughout the week. We really did demonstrate the pillars of being a 'Beacon Well School!'

  • World School Sport Education Games

    Fri 09 Feb 2024 AE

We have 4 Year 10 pupils who have been selected to represent England at the World School Sport Education Games in Greece in April. This is an amazing opportunity with some unique experiences as we build towards the Olympics, Paris 2024. They will be accompanied by Mr Stanley Mrs Shaw. The organisers only confirmed the event in December, giving us a short window of time to raise up to £4500 towards their journey.

Parents, pupils and staff have a range of ideas, however, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share our fundraising letter  letter with people who might make a potential donation or offer some sponsorship. Please click HERE for the letter.

  • Rugby Legend George Gregan Visits Clare Mount

    Tue 16 Jan 2024 KB

The Clare Mount Community were delighted and honoured to welcome a rugby legend to school earlier today!

George Gregan played 139 times for the Australian Rugby Union International team, including 59 appearances as captain. He was a World Cup winner, in Wales, in 1999 and, when he retired from international rugby, he was the most capped Australian player ever!

George is still passionate about sport, health and fitness and he was with us, today, to promote the benefits of strength and conditioning using a new piece of fitness technology called the 'Aquacore.' Earlier, this year, we installed cutting-edge 'KO8-Systems' in our newly refurbished fitness suite and the Aquacore equipment will add another, brilliant, element to our work with our students in improving their strength, flexibility, proprioception and muscular endurance. George was joined, today, by Kieran Owens, founder of KO8, and we are delighted to be working with both Kieran and George to improve the health and wellbeing of our own students - and hopefully other young people in more of our local and regional schools.

During George's visit, today, he led two rugby and fitness coaching sessions for different student groups before taking questions from the students about his career in rugby. Clare Mount is the first school in the country to be using the Aquacore - which not only benefits our pupils physically - many of our students, today, found the sound of the water and colour appealing to their senses. We hope this is the start of a long and fruitful partnership.

Thank you, George and Kieran for an inspirational day!
