  • Students excel during Waste Week 2021

    Fri 26 Feb 2021 NN

Did you know that the amount of edible food wasted in the UK could fill eight Wembley Stadiums?

Or that we throw away 20 million slices of bread EVERY day in the UK, which creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to over 140,000 cars every year?

Our students, led by the Science department, have been developing a deep appreciation of the need to create less waste. Here are just a few pictures of some of the things produced

Special mention needs to Alex in Year 10 who made spaghetti bolognese, apple crumble, cheese and ham toasties and tiffin with food that was close to going out of date and some fruit that were bruised!

  • It's National Careers Week from 1st March 2021

    Wed 24 Feb 2021 KB / CC-S

    Hi everyone

It's NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK next week!

As part of our Preparation for Adulthood and Careers Education programme we will be sending out useful guides and information about potential next steps for our students. We will also send out links to websites which may be of interest to you plus a fun quiz for our students to get involved with. Many of our students are currently making those choices about their next step for September. For our Year 11 and Sixth Form, there is still time to look at colleges and watch virtual tours if you wish to leave this year but you need to get your skates on! Looking ahead to college or training is a great idea for all students and I would encourage everyone to look at the information sent out next week.

  • Clare Mount's 'Well School' Promise

    Wed 24 Feb 2021 KB

Clare Mount is one of the Founder Schools of the National 'Well School' movement, which now has 500 members nationwide.

This is our promise to our young people as we return from the latest 'lockdown!'

To the children and young people of the UK

We are writing this letter to you because there are a few things we think you should know.

We are incredibly proud of you

This last year has been exceptionally difficult. You have shown incredible resilience and adaptability. You have been selfless and put the needs of others before your own. You have made so many sacrifices and yet faced the challenges with strength and determination. There is much you’ve been told you’ve lost, including many weeks of your education, but there is much you have gained. You will emerge from this stronger. This may be the greatest challenge you have faced so far but it will not be the last. Next time you will find you have more resources and are better prepared (and even more so the time after that).

    We are here for you

We know some of you will be worried about what the future holds. We want you to know we are here for you. We know you will need a chance to reconnect with your friends. We know you will need time and space to play and be active. We know you are desperate to get back to your sports/music/art/acting and everything else that is so crucial to your development. We know that you are keen to get back to your academic studies in school and college as well. We know that evenings, weekends and holidays are as important as your time at school. We are committed to ensuring that your opportunities are balanced and wherever your passions lie you have the chance to pursue these. We will be here to encourage you, support you, challenge and help you every step of the way.

    You are the future

You are the future and that future is not written. There are challenges but there always have been and always will be: we know we will get through this together. We have complete faith in you. We want you to know that; more than anything. Do not let us or anyone else tell you what you can or can’t be. We don’t know. We cannot imagine what you will achieve. But we are so excited to see and be a part of it.

We hope to see you back in our school very soon. Whatever happens next, it will just be another step in your journey.

  • Clare Mount Students Get Creative

    Wed 10 Feb 2021 KB / CC-S
Year 8 have been practising their Art skills in school this week and have created some wonderful coil pots using air-dry clay with Mrs Cooper-Shone. The students learned about the properties of clay and how to handle it and then put their knowledge to good use by creating decorative pots. The pots should be ready to take home by the end of the week  - ready to be filled with sweets I think!!

  • Safer Internet Day 2021

    Thu 04 Feb 2021 P.Kearney

Safer Internet Day will be on the 9th February 2021.

I will post a factsheet for students and parents/carers about fake news and disinformation online.

I will also send a quiz through to Form Teachers via email that form classes can work on and send through to me with their work.

Our theme this year in the UK is:

An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world

The internet is an integral part of our world now, it is important this can be a source of facts and reliable information
