  • First ICT in the Community night at Clare Mount

Wed 30 Nov 2016 Paul Kearney

We held our first "ICT in the Community" night on 30th November in the bungalow. The aim is to help the community to understand more about what we do at Clare Mount in ICT and also offer opportunities for the community to develop their ICT skills with us.

Our first night focused on what we offer and what people would like us to provide for them. Next night date to follow where we will begin to offer targeted training on various software packages.

  • Girls Cricket on the rise at Clare Mount

Thu 24 Nov 2016 Paul Kearney
Our cricketing girls travelled to Bebington High for their first fixture for many months. Vicky and Mollie, who also captained the side, were making their debuts alongside regulars Kaitlyn, Amelia and Louise. The girls came up against a very good and well drilled Bebington side but played competitively and showed great character in defeat. All of the girls showed excellent attitudes and some excellent batting, bowling and fielding was on display. What was more important was the excellent spirit that the game was played in which was a credit to Bebington High School and their staff. Exciting developments in Cheshire Disability Cricket mean that these girls, who were a credit to our school, should see lots more opportunities to develop their skills in the coming months. Thanks to Mr White again for his support. We are both excited about what 2016-2017 will bring for our talented squad of cricketing students. I am proud of all the players as always.

  • Clare Mount Students to take part in BBC Schools Report Initiative

Thu 17 Nov 2016 Paul Kearney
As part of our growing work in Media Studies, Clare Mount Year 11 Media students will be taking part in the Schools Report project which is run every year by the BBC. We will have a dedicated page on our school website and will be adding news stories throughout the year, culminating in School Report News Day on 16 March 2017, where BBC will be featuring some of the schools across their network of channels. This is a fantastic opportunity for our youngsters to develop their media skills in the type of environment they would be expected to work in should they pursue a media career.
  • Clare Mount's MacBeth earns plaudits from national festival organiser

    Wed 16 Nov 2016 J. MacLean
We are really proud of our students for their performance of MacBeth at New Brightons Floral Pavilion theatre last night. The audience were taken through a rollercoaster of emotions from laughter to fear, excitement to sadness and gave a massive round of applause for the cast. Shakespeare Schools festival education manager said of the play, "Everything about the show was incredible. From the witches entry as cleaning ladies (inspired), to the wonderful use of music (I will never hear 'Making Your Mind Up' at a wedding disco again without thinking of Macbeth trying to decide whether to kill Duncan or not!) and the incredibly committed performances from your cast - it was an absolute triumph.
What I thought was particularly impressive was the brilliant mix of comedy and music with some genuinely creepy moments, like Banquo's masked ghost, Lady Macbeth being carried off to her death and the sudden jump-scare appearance of the apparition from the witches' cauldron.
The storytelling was so clear throughout and the performances were magnificent. Obviously, your Macbeth was incredible, but I was really moved by your Macduff too - the quality of acting when he learnt that his family had died was stunning. The entire ensemble did you proud.

A massive well done to all of the cast from all of us at Clare Mount. We are very proud.

  • Indoor cricketers shine in South Wirral

Mon 14 Nov 2016 Paul Kearney

The under 15 boys team travelled to South Wirral with a sense of purpose with 3 debutants, namely Michael, Kierran and James from Y9, joining the group for their first games having all flourished in our recent Friday cricket sessions. First up was a game against Pensby and our boys batted first with James starring with some lusty blows, ably supported by Reeve, resulting in a total of 42 posted off 5 overs. The side, exceptionally led by Paul, looked comfortable in the reply with tight bowling from Paul, Michael G and James seeing us home by 9 runs for yet another mainstream victory.

The final game saw us play a Hilbre side with members of the Cheshire mainstream side yet, as myself and Mr White know with our boys, the side were completely competitive with Paul batting well and nullifying the vastly more experienced bowler helping us to a competitive 26 from 4 overs. In reply, tight fielding from Michael L and Kierran supported the bowlers and a famous victory looked on the cards. Sadly the Hilbre main player's experience shone through and we fell short off the final ball of the game, a monumental effort at the level our inexperienced side were required to perform at.

I have attached some images from the evening, including our new sports mascot, Gareth, posing at the game and with his alter-ego Gareth from Cheshire Cricket. Thanks to Mr White for his support and for sharing in my belief in these talented players. Girls tournament is next Thursday 24th November at Bebington.

  • Pupils 'Dare to Aspire'

    Mon 07 Nov 2016 D. Keefe
Pupils from Clare Mount, Orrets Meadow and Lingham enjoyed a visit from former South African International Rugby player and European Cup winner George Fouche. George ran an interactive assembly for an hour with pupils talking about the ups and downs in his life, including breaking his neck and recovering from being paralysed. His key message was 'Dare to Aspire'. Pupils then took part in a series of workshops looking at their own personal qualities for success and taking part in team challenges to build the biggest tower from marsh-mellows and spaghetti.
  • Number Cruncherz visit to Sale Sharks

Fri 04 Nov 2016 Paul Kearney

29 students and a number of staff attended the Sale Sharks v Wasps game in the Anglo Welsh Cup on Friday 4th November. We arrived promptly and so were able to enjoy the full match day experience with plenty of food being bought and opportunities to meet the players in "The Shark Tank" before the game. Sale won 17-13 with both sides using some of their fringe players to gain match experience and the students enjoyed the match with many attending their first game in a stadium, all saying how much they enjoyed the evening. Thanks to Sale for their hospitality and we look forward to attending future games at the AJ Bell Stadium.
