  • We are becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

    Fri 19 Oct 2018 N. Boyle

Clare Mount Specialist Sports College aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.

Clare Mount pupils and adults will learn about the UNCRC by putting their rights into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships, whether between adults and pupils, between pupils or between adults.

Headteachers from schools involved in the Award say it has improved children’s and young people’s respect for themselves and others and contributed to children and young people being more engaged in their learning.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey towards becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School. It is proven to benefit everyone in the school community to grow and learn together. It would be great if you could spend a few minutes reading through our questions & answers on the back of this letter, and also find a bit more about the Convention on the Rights of the Child by visiting unicef.org.uk/crc.

For further information about Rights Respecting Schools please visit:  www.unicef.org.uk/rrsa

  • Clare Mount 6th form visit the Hive, Birkenhead

    Fri 19 Oct 2018 K. Byrne
On Tuesday 16th October, the entire 6th form had their PE afternoon at the brilliant Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead. All students had a tour of the facility and had expert coaching in climbing, scootering, skateboarding and 'box-fit.' It was amazing to see the progress the students made in such a short space of time in the activities, some of which they were trying for the first time. The coaches commented on their commitment and willingness to try hard to improve. It definitely won't be our last visit! For more information amount the Wirral Youth Zone visit: https://www.thehiveyouthzone.org/
  • Clare Mount Active Kids For All Inclusive PE Training Programme

    Fri 19 Oct 2018 J. White

Clare Mount trains 58 primary teachers in how to include all young people in their PE lessons.

Mr White trained 58 primary school teachers training at Edgehill University on Friday October 12th.  The teachers are at schools on their final placements.  The Sainsbury’s Active Kids For All Inclusive PE Training programme (https://inclusivepe.org.uk/) is a 3 hour course that shows teachers how to adapt and differentiate their lessons to include all young people, to give all young people the opportunity to progress in PE and Sport.  Over 80% of young people with SEND are in mainstream schools and the teachers will now have the confidence and competence to be able to make PE accessible to all.

Please watch the Inclusion video to see how Clare Mount would like all schools out there to approach Inclusion.
