At Clare Mount Specialist Sports College, we are committed to contributing to the wider understanding of how young people with special educational needs can thrive through physical activity and movement.
We're proud to be actively involved in academic research that directly benefits our pupils and the wider SEND community. Our Headteacher is currently undertaking a part-time PhD in Sports Science with Liverpool John Moores University, investigating how much and how well adolescents with special educational needs move. This research not only enhances our understanding of our pupils' needs but also helps inform best practice in specialist sports education nationally.
Through our involvement in research, we ensure that our approach to physical education and wellbeing is grounded in evidence and continues to evolve based on the latest findings. This commitment to research-informed practice is central to our mission of providing the very best opportunities for our pupils.
Ofsted noted in our recent inspection (May 2026) “Leaders’ commitment to an array of research-led initiatives have a sustained and transformative impact on pupils’ education, wellbeing and long-term success.”
