    Implementation

Music is taught either as singular lessons or as part of a carousel (double lesson each week for a period of between 7-9 weeks) throughout Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9). The students are taught in their form groups

Pupils at Clare Mount follow the programmes of study as laid down in the National Curriculum and will also use elements and ideas from the Model Music Curriculum (released March 2021). The scheme of work is modified to meet the needs of Clare Mount pupils' SEND.

All students in Key Stage 3 are given the opportunity to

perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.

learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.

understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

By the end of Year 7 pupils should be able to read basic notation, play and sing with some confidence and have a foundation of musical understanding and vocabulary.

By the end of Year 8 pupils should have built on the skills learnt in year 7, be able to play/sing/compose more challenging music and describe and analyse music in greater detail.

    Impact

Through high quality teaching and learning, Clare Mount students enhance their cognitive and academic skills, boost their social and emotional development, and the whole school climate is affected, positively. Students benefit from improved academic achievement, particularly in literacy and numeracy, while also developing crucial skills like confidence, communication, resilience, and emotional intelligence
