Clare Mount School Achievement Profile

Performance Data for Academic year 2024-25

The following data set are provisional figures released by the DFE in October 2025. The measures included below relate to those students at Clare Mount who completed KS4 in the summer of 2025.

It is still important to note that the students at Clare Mount who are included in this performance data will have experienced some disruption in their schooling due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

CONTEXT

Clare Mount Specialist Sports College is a mixed Secondary Special School for students with autism, moderate learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties. All students in the school have an EHCP.

Whilst our students do face numerous barriers to learning it does not prevent the school having high academic aspirations for the students based on outstanding Teaching and Learning.

In recent years the attainment and progress of our students in public examinations has improved year on year and we are extremely proud of our students and their families for their hard work, resilience and determination to overcome the challenges faced.

At Clare Mount we recognize the significance of fostering positive relationships between staff, students and parents and carers and we regard this as pivotal to the academic successes achieved by our students.

ATTAINMENT 8 (A8)

The average A8 for our students was 19.8 which was an improvement from the previous year and the year before that. Attainment 8 over time.

It is important to note that nationally the average A8 for a student with an EHCP in 2025 was 14.2. Quite clearly students at Claremount are outperforming their peers nationally in terms of attainment.

PROGRESS 8 (P8)

The progress 8 figure for a secondary school shows how much progress students at the school make between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4, compared to students across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2. This score is based on results in up to 8 qualifications.  Progress 8 (explained in 3 minutes)

In 2025 and 2026 there will be no P8 reported due to the impact of the pandemic. However, it is important to take note of P8 over time at Clare Mount:

2022

-0.51

2023

-0.39

2024 (provisional)

-0.15

Despite being a Specialist School the students at Clare Mount are compared to all students across England in mainstream schools when determining the school’s progress 8 score – there are no discrete comparisons available for specialist schools alone.

In 2024 the Progress 8 score for students at Clare Mount was -0.15 – this score means Clare Mount is graded as ‘Average’ using the DFE’s banding system. This score is better than the Local Authority (Wirral) average for all secondary schools of -0.16.

To give this score some perspective it is useful to observe how many schools fall into each banding.

Additionally in 2024, the national picture for those students with an EHCP finishing Key stage 4 points to Clare Mount students comfortably outperforming their peers nationally. The average Progress 8 score nationally for students with an EHCP in 2024 was -1.13. In broad terms this means that Clare Mount students completing Key Stage 4 in 2024 achieved a whole grade better across all subjects than their peers nationally – a fantastic achievement!

CONCLUSION

In terms of the Key Performance Indicator for Secondary Schools in England we are both delighted and extremely proud of the attainment and progress our students make. There is clear and sustained improvement and will mean more of our students are able to enrol on courses of their choice at post 16.
