    Admissions & Transitions

Welcome to our Admissions page. At Clare Mount, we pride ourselves on being a centre of excellence for students with Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. We understand that choosing the right environment for your child is a significant decision, and we are here to support you through that journey.

    Our Current Status

    Published Admission Number (PAN): 400

    Current Number on Roll: 460

Please note that as a popular and highly specialised setting, we are currently operating above our Published Admission Number to meet the needs of our local community.

    How to Apply

Unlike mainstream schools, the final decision regarding placement at Clare Mount lies with the Wirral Local Authority SEN Team. As the admitting authority, they coordinate all placements based on a student’s specific needs.

    The Admissions Process

EHCP Requirement: All students attending Clare Mount must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Consultation: The Local Authority will send a formal consultation request to the school, including your child’s EHCP and recent reports.

Review: Our leadership team reviews the paperwork to ensure we can meet the specific educational, social, and physical needs of the student without impacting the efficient education of others.

Response: We report back to the Local Authority, who then makes the final offer of a place.

Moving to the Wirral? If you are moving to the area with a child who already has an EHCP, please contact the Wirral SEN team immediately to begin the transfer process.

    Appeals & In-Year Placements

    In-Year Admissions

Mid-year transfers follow the same consultation process as September starts. Availability depends on current class sizes and the specific needs within each year group cohort.

    Appeals Timetable

If you have been refused a place, you have the right to appeal. For specialist settings, this is typically handled through the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability).

Deadline to lodge an appeal: Usually within 2 months of the LA decision letter.

Support: We recommend visiting Wirral SEND IASS for independent advice on the appeals process.

Unfortunately, we are not offering visits for parents/carers at this time, unless your child has a place at our school, or you are in the appeal process. Our current priority is supporting those Year 6 pupils who have been allocated a place for September and supporting their transition.
