Role Models and Catalysts for Change

Year 11 Silver D of E

The Year 11 recently completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Exploration.  They walked along the Wirral Way from West Kirby to Willaston.  After having an ice cream stop, students were then transported by school minibus to Quinta Christian Residential Centre where they camped for two nights.  The second day saw ten other students join the trip and all walked to Chirk Castle.  The walk included the Llangollen Canal viaduct and tunnel which is 451 metres in length.  After lunch students were able to explore the castle, the grounds and its dungeon.  Some were even sent to the stocks!!  A walk back to the camp site in the rain looked a dampener for the campfire but fortunately the weather cleared up and the students were able to sit around the campfire eating their dinner as well as toasting marshmallows!!  The final day involved packing up the equipment and returning to the Wirral to walk to Thurstaston for lunch!  Some very tired students went home that night!
